Learn inkle-weaving, tablet-weaving,kumihimo, and other fiber arts. Learn how to dye gracefully. We will have silk scarves and stoles for sale to try your hand at tie-dyeing or shibori (what's the difference? About $50 if buying it in a store) If you plan to bring anything to dye, let me know. Do not plan to arrive with yards of fabric without warning me first. Those not interested in fiber or dyeing can help refill rinse buckets, sit around and talk or help fill pigment containers or any number of jobs we will undoubtedly think up. |
In addition to our regular activities:
|
Baroness Thea Northernridge (OL) will be teaching a class on Viking Wire Weaving! This was the lovely silver wire award cord that she donated at CP Prize. It's amazing!

| Mistress Therese of the White Griffin did a FANTASTIC job as PlayDay mom on Saturday! | |
| Several folks come by with questions or stopped by because they were intrigued with all the fiber arts toys. One lady asked where she could get a rigid heddle loom so she could start weaving also. | |
| Unlike most PlayDays, we didn't have many folks sit and play, but I believe the event was way too busy for anyone to break away. Two ladies that did come by to work on projects were in and out between their tours of duty | |
| We had a PlayDay FIRST: Our first ever scheduled class, and the first PlayDay activity requiring a fee. And it was a SUCCESS! Mistress Thea of Northernridge taught a Viking Wire Weaving to 5 very interested students! She and the students went home happy with the class! | |

| Luighseach brought her Takadai, and books, samples, Marudai, homemade Marudai and Liam’s favorite Bonsai and rock. It was lovely. | |
| I bought cardboard Marudais, lots of Kumihimo supplies, and Baroness Marina’s Fill-the-Gap kits (they never got used at CP Prize). | |
| Sean Michael brought his inkle pickup work and manned the inkle table. We had a couple of inkle weavers (and I was able to explain inkle patterning to Kate! She went from can’t understand it ever, to designing and warping her own pattern!!!!) | |
| We had a lovely space at the back of the hall, between the eating / conversation area and the display room. | |
| We had lots of folks stop by with questions and checking out Luighseach and her Takadai. Several folks stopped by to play (including Baroness Muiriath, who stopped by to help set up and got sucked into learning Kumihimo on a cardboard Marudai. She left planning to get husband to make a Wal-Mart stool Marudai for her kumihimo pleasure!). | |
| We gave away all the Fill-the-Gap kits, with promises to donate the completed cords to the Kingdom. One went to a newcomer (we did our share of Chatalaining at FotR!), AND one to a KNIGHT. | |
| Astridhr contracted the services Sir William de Rouen at the knight auction and taught him Fill-the-Gap kumihimo, figuring he’d do it for the day, showing people that Knights can do fiber arts, and then he’d return it for her to complete. WRONG! He loved it as something to keep his hands busy, he said he was going to work on it at the Knight’s meeting on Sunday! And said his wife would be happy, he could do this while watching TV instead of disturbing her by playing with his guitar! | |

| I was very happy with the set up at FotR; we were very visible and a lot of people stopped by to look and ask questions. While I won't be taking the takadai a lot of places (it has to go in the truck and the truck gets lou$y gas mileage) having it there, front and center, was a great draw. People stopped just to ask what it was then stayed to look at the rest of what we were doing. | |

| THANK YOU! | |
| The Weaving & Fiber Playday Award Cordathon was a fun time and rousing success! | |
| We donated 1 Silver, and 17 Blue & White award cords to Their Majesties! | |
| Some of the cords were made on site and some were made ahead of time and brought to the event. Several folks also learned new techniques and started cords for future donation. | |
| THANK YOU to all the folks who made cord (onsite or off)! Their Majesties really appreciated your work! | |
| THANK YOU to our teachers Baroness Marina, THL Sean, THL Madelena! | |
| THANK YOU to Griffin Dyeworks for donating blue and white cord, and to Bridget for the Viking Whipcord Braiding materials and handouts! | |
| THANK YOU to the Barony of the Angels for allowing us to set up the Playday in a comfy space under the trees! | |
| THANK YOU to THL Madelena for the idea and name of the “Award Cordathon”! | |
| For those who missed us …. | |
| We’ll have some Award Cord kumihimo kits available at the Weaving & Fiber Playday at the Festival of the Rose/Dreiburgen Summer Arts . Our Playday theme is Japanese Braiding with Baroness Luighseach teaching us stuff she learned in Japan last year! She’ll be teaching fingerloop and handloop braiding as well as kumihimo. | |
| And we’re planning on another Award Cordathon at next year’s CP Prize! Thank again to everyone who help make it a fun and productive day! |
| Report on CP Prize Playday | |
| Myself, Madelena, THL Sean Michael, and Baroness Marina were available to teach or demo. | |
| Baroness Marina made up 6 Fill-the-Gap Kumihimo kits with Griffin Dyeworks donated blue & white thread. Bridget brought us enough Viking whipcord braid supplies to set up two stations (on the frame of my one of my popups). | |
| We were under the trees behind the raffle, and near the book sale. Not very visible from the eric, but visible to lots of foot traffic. | |
| We had a dozen or more folks come by and try their hand at stuff. Including some folks who live across the street and came to check us out. | |
| I think we have 8 or 10 folks doing Viking Whip cord braid, 3 or 4 doing kumihimo (Konga Gumi), 2 or 3 at inkles (which Sean manned very well) And 2 folks who tips on teaching lucet to a class of elementary to high school kids. | |
| Between cords made before the event and given to us to present to the Kingdom, and cords made on site (Viking whip cord braid) we were able to donate 18 award cords the The Crown. Which included an incredible silver Viking wire braided cord that Mistress Thea made at the Playday. |
